Unlike many opticians, we allow 45 minutes for each examination so that you never need to feel rushed.
During the examination, our optician, Suzanne, will do a thorough assessment & carry out a variety of checks.
Following this, Suzanne will spend time explaining her findings to you and give the appropriate recommendations for eyewear, sunglasses and contact lens options, along with useful nutritional information that could improve your eye health long-term!
Contact Lens Fitting
Though its daunting for some, learning to apply and remove your contact lenses is very easy; it just takes patience and practice! Once you’ve done it a few times, it will become second nature.
Suzanne, our Optician, will teach you how best to handle your lenses and will provide written instructions to refer back to – she will be more than happy to answer any questions and concerns you may have.
We have a wide selection of contact lenses in stock at Trouteauds, such as Acuvue, Bio True and our newest addition, Dailies Total 1.
If you need specially-made contact lenses, for example, Varifocals, we will order them immediately and contact you once they’ve arrived.
Enhanced Eye Examination
For an Enhanced Eye Examination, we will use the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) which is a non-invasive, non-contact imaging technology which is used to obtain high definition 3D images of the cornea, anterior eye and the retina.
Using this technology, we are able to view the full thickness of the retina and the optic nerve, allowing us to make early diagnosis of many progressive eye conditions.
After making a diagnosis, we’re then able to arrange rapid referral for treatment.
The Enhanced Eye Examination is recommended to anyone who has a family history of glaucoma, macular degeneration and those who are smokers.
Medical conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can increase your risk of retinal diseases, so an OCT scan is advised to identify early changes in the eye before they progress to a sight-threatening level
Here at Trouteauds Opticians we offer an alternative to both glasses and daily contact lenses: Ortho K!
Ortho K is a contact lens that is worn overnight to gently reshape the surface of the eye, which allows you to see clearly the following day.
Those with nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism are good candidates for Ortho-K.
Patients have experienced positive effects from as early as a day or two of nighttime wear, but often higher prescriptions can take 2 weeks or longer for maximum correction.
Users are able to see well without glasses or contact lenses for 1-2 days, but it is recommended to wear them every night to ensure the best results.
If you are interested in using Ortho K lenses, do get in touch!
Our Optician will advise you on whether they are suitable or not & ensure you’re getting the right treatment to suit you.
Macular Pigment Assessment
Macular Degeneration is a condition that results in a progressive loss of your central vision; it is the leading cause of visual loss in the western world.
Because it is related to age, it is often thought of as an ‘old person’s disease,’ however, damage to the retina begins much earlier in life.
It is important to consider risk factors as young as your 30’s and40’s because lifestyle changes at this stage can drastically reduce your chances of developing this condition.
At Trouteauds Opticians, we can measure the pigment density in your eyes in less that 5 minutes.
This measurement, paired with your personal health information (smokers status, family history, weight/diet etc), will allow us to offer health and lifestyle advice to reduce your risk of Macular Degeneration.
If your macular pigment is especially low, supplements such as Macushield are sold in store to help increase it.
Here at Trouteaud Opticians we have our own workshop in-store to carry out repairs on both spectacles and sunglasses.
Our staff are able to repair and adjust your glasses to make them comfortable to wear and last longer, but if your glasses require more intricate repairs, we will send them to specialist companies in the UK to do so.
We are long-standing customers of optical companies such as Luxottica, Safilo and Marconi which allows us to order replacement parts for your glasses, should they need it.
Trouteaud Opticians is among the leading eye care professionals in the Channel Islands, offering the highest level of ocular services to treat and care for your vision.
Located in the heart of St Peter Port, Guernsey, our staff have over 20 years experience in Optometry and are proud members of The Best of Guernsey.
We stock a wide range of VAT-free, luxury glasses, sunglasses and contact lens options
to suit your individual needs, with help and guidance from our trained advisors.
